Success Stories – Susan Boyle

Susan Boyle sings "I Dreamed a Dream" during "Britain's Got Talent"Meet Susan Boyle. She’s 47, single, and unemployed. She lives in a village in rural Scotland. Never been on a date. Never been kissed.

Most people would describe Susan’s looks as average; some would call her frumpy. When Susan walked onto the stage of Britain’s Got Talent (Britain’s version of American Idol), the judges and audience sneered, rolled their eyes, and snickered behind their hands.

But when Susan began singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables, eyes widened. Jaws dropped. [Watch her performance on YouTube. Your jaw will drop, too.]

Susan has one of the most melodic, expressive voices you’ll ever hear.

After her performance, all three of the judges gave Susan a thumbs-up. One of them remarked, “That was the most extraordinary shock we’ve ever had.”

Why?

Because the jaded judges and fickle audience pre-judged Susan based on her looks and her station in life. How could a middle-aged woman from Blackburn, Scotland – who’s never sung professionally – possibly wow an international television audience?

But she did. She did! “I’ve always wanted to perform in front of a large audience,” Susan told the judges before she sang. “I’m gonna make that audience rock.”

Susan is an inspiration to those of us who feel unsure of ourselves; to those of us who harbor dreams we’re afraid to pursue. Since she was 12 years old, Susan dreamed a dream to delight the world with her voice. Thirty-five years later, she began living her dream.

What about you? What dream do you yearn to fulfill?

Let’s talk about it. Because putting your dream into writing and then vocalizing it publicly is the first, critical step to achieving your dream.

If you’re already pursuing your passion, we want to hear about that, too.
