Setting Blogging Goals: How Often Will You Update?

Part 2 of 4

In Part 1 of this series, you learned that in order to be a successful blogger, you must develop a marathon mentality. Hopefully, you’ve completed your goal-setting homework assignment (if not, go back and read How to Train for the Blogging Marathon.

Deciding how often you’ll publish new content is a must-do. Enthusiastic newbie bloggers tend to overdo it; they post every day for a month and then run out of steam.

Publishing fresh content five times per week or more can burn you out. I recommend setting more reasonable goals for starters:

Blog once a week every week for a year, or three times a week for three months.

The key is consistency. Readers are creatures of habit; they want to feel assured they will hear from you on a regular basis.

At the end of each quarter, re-evaluate and adjust your publication schedule.

Today’s assignment:

Set a blogging goal for yourself.

Fill in the blank: My goal is to blog ____ times per week for ____ weeks/months.

Now make your goal public (it’ll only take a minute). Write it in the Comments area below this post.

Often, making a public commitment to your goal will help you hold yourself accountable.

In our next post, we’ll interrupt our goal-setting activities to discuss a common malady that afflicts all bloggers.
