Martha Stewart’s Blog Has Gone to the Dogs

Posted April 25, 2009 | Laura Christianson

The blogosphere has officially gone to the dogs. Martha Stewart’s French Bulldogs, Sharkey and Francesca, recently launched their own blog, “The Daily Wag.”

They’re dipping their paws into social networking scene, too, with four Twitter updates and 1,811 followers as of the time I wrote this post.

You’ve gotta credit Martha with being the consummate marketer — she’s created an entire home/garden/entertaining/craft empire. The Daily Wag is a clever way to educate the public about her pet projects, namely her line of:

  • Pet bowls
  • Pet toys
  • Pet accommodations (aka, dog houses & such)
  • Pet clothing and accessories

And yes, Martha even sells the ultra-tacky pet “adoption announcements” (aack!) and “fabric portraits” (think, “velvet bulldogs playing poker”).

In addition to all the doggy bones she entices people to buy, Martha dishes up practical advice about pet grooming, info about various dog breeds, and critically-important instructions about how to pack your pet’s suitcase for those long overseas flights in first class.

On The Daily Wag (watch the animated typography closely and you’ll see the “g” in “Wag” wagging its tail), Martha’s dogs share — in their unique doggy voices — about life with Martha. Who can resist getting an intimate, first-hand (first-paw?) glimpse at the life of the fascinating woman?

Bet you can’t! Let me know if you visit The Daily Wag, and share one thing you learned from Francesca and Sharkey.
