Linkbaiting: the practice of generating incoming links to your Website or blog from other sites. In common English, you “bait” or entice someone to link to your site by posting any of the following:
- quality content
- breaking news

- polls or surveys
- top 10 lists that people want to share with other
- creating something useful (like a snazzy WordPress theme) that everybody wants to have
- …you get the idea
In her Publicity Tip of the Week newsletter, Joan Stewart alerted her readers to Linkbait Generator, a free online tool that generates catchy blog post titles based on the subject your enter.
Of course, I had to try it.
I tried several different subjects. First: business blogging. Here are some of the results:
- 8 reasons to fear business blogging
- 8 myths about business blogging that Hollywood wants you to believe
- 9 crazy ways that business blogging is infiltrating pop culture
- 10 surprising ways business blogging will be different in 20 years
Next, Facebook:
- Why Facebook should scare you more than Osama Bin Laden
- 8 ways Facebook could help you survive a zombie outbreak
- 10 of the best Facebook movies of all time
- 5 amazing things you probably didn’t know about Facebook
- 10 funny ways Facebook has appeared in music videos
Twitter:
- 15 must see websites about Twitter
- 10 ballsy pranks involving Twitter that failed miserably
- 10 under-appreciated things about Twitter
And finally, I entered my name:
- 10 amazing Laura Christianson pictures
- 10 ways people have gotten rich exploiting Laura Christianson
- 9 ways Laura Christianson can help a total sissy survive in prison
- 7 ways Laura Christianson could cure cancer

It’s kind of fun and definitely helps you think outside the box in terms of ideas for blog posts. Try it! Let us know the most quirky title it generates for your subject.

LOVE this … changed the title of my post for tomorrow from “My Marriage Works” to “5 Insane but True things about Marriage.” I already had a list of 5 reasons our marriage is strong … and looking over my list I realized they were all sort of “counter cultural” and could seem insane … so … I changed the title! We'll see what happens!
